Journalists Protest Against Arrest of Mandeep Punia
On Sunday, January 31st, journalists from several digital and independent platforms registered their condemnation against the arrest of independent reporter Mandeep Punia. They gathered outside the Delhi Police headquarters and called for the release of Punia.
Earlier, on Saturday, the Delhi police detained two journalists covering the ongoing farmers’ agitation at Delhi’s Singhu border. While one of them, Punia, is a freelance journalist and contributor to the Caravan magazine, another journalist, Dharmender Singh, is a Delhi-based journalist who works for Online News India.
Dharmender Singh has been released but Punia remains in custody. A Delhi Court on Sunday rejected his bail plea and placed him in 14 days of judicial custody. His bail application will be heard on Monday, February 1st.
